Funded Mandate

 

A funded mandate is a statute or regulation passed by a higher level of government that requires a lower level of government, public individual, or organization to perform a task(s) and that higher level of government also includes the funding necessary to to cover the cost of carrying out the task(s).  

 

Example:

 

Unlike the last time the federal government “helped” the state government cover the costs of medicaid expansion by giving them their own future tax revenue or basically forcing them to borrow from their own future revenue, this time Congress actually gave them federal tax revenue to cover the cost of their new education program.
