Lame Duck

A lame duck is an elected official who who not be in office during the next legislative session.  He/She is in his last year of his term of office and will not be in office during the next legislative session due to term limits, not running for re-election, or not being re-elected.

 

Example:

President McDonnell was heading into his last legislative session knowing that he would not have the same influence as he had in previous sessions as he was now a lame duck.
