Natural Law

The term natural law refers to the philosophical belief that there are inherent and universal truths regarding humanity, human nature, human rights, and human morality that are naturally and inextricably part of human existence.

Example:

Elizabeth is the attorney representing the young mother who killed a man she caught having broken into her home and attempting to kill her baby. Elizabeth felt certain that the public would look favorably on Jane if for no other reason than that they would recognize the natural law that a mother would and should seek to protect her child from harm.
