Paternalism

The attitude, practice, or policy of an individual, a group, an organization, a government or any entity in authority, or those seeking to be in authority, of making or intending to make decisions on behalf of others that restricts the liberty, freedom, decision making, or responsibilities of those in a subordinate position or those of perceived inferiority or incapacity for their alleged best interests.

Example:

The Delegate from the 22nd district posted a comment on Facebook that displayed his paternalistic viewpoint that, as a legislator, he was intellectually superior to his constituents and that, even when provided with the same information, they would be incapable of making the correct decision.
