Politically Correct (PC)

 

The term politically correct, or PC, refers to the ideological belief and/or political stratagey that demands that individuals restrict their speech, language, and behavior in order to conform to a particular political ideology as well as a prescribed terminology and set of behaviors. Those who do not conform to the social or legal pressure to conform risk consequences ranging from social derision for the subjective label of offensiveness or immorality to financial or criminal repercussions.

During the debate, the Delegate Brown used the word mankind instead of the word humankind and her opponent responded by ridiculing her for not being politically correct. He then went on to publicly shame her as he considered it even more offensive that she, as a woman who therefore should have known better, had chosen to use a word that was reflective of a male-dominated society and deeply offensive to women according to all intelligent people.
