The Virginia Department of Veterans Services is seeking a qualified candidate to perform functions of the VTAP Program such as working with key stakeholders within federal, state, and local governments, military installations, and private sector partners within a designated geographical area under the supervision of the VTAP Program Manager with DVS programs and projects related to Veteran’s employment, education, entrepreneurial, and other programs as directed. With limited supervision, the Northern Virginia Regional Transition Coordinator will plan, direct, and coordinate activities required to position the Commonwealth to better address the employment, education, and entrepreneurial opportunities of Transitioning Service Members, Veterans, and serving members of the National Guard and Reserve components in the assigned geographical area. The duties and responsibilities of the position will include developing and fostering relationships with regional partners in both the public and private sectors, planning and executing events related to workforce development, represent VTAP and/or DVS in regional efforts in Veterans workforce development
initiatives, and provide support to local Transitioning Service Members and Veterans with locating resources and opportunities in employment, education, and entrepreneurship.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership and management experience.
Applied knowledge of software, specifically the MS Office Suite and use of the Internet as an informational tool.
Ability to develop and enhance relationships with new and existing stakeholders.
Operational management and logistics coordination.
Superior oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in program management, public policy, and business administration and work experience within a state and/or federal agency. Firsthand knowledge of the military transition process and recently transitioned from military service. Serving as a senior leader of a diverse organization. Preparation and delivery of written reports and presentations both internally and externally from your organization.
Development, implementation, and management of projects/programs involving multiple/diverse stakeholders from the Armed Forces, federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as the private sector.
Developing strategies for achieving desired or measured results. Case management experience in career counseling or similar role.
