Shoe Leather

The term shoe leather is a metaphor that refers to an effort based on direct action or literally walking around and meeting with people.

Examples: Walking door-to-door and attending events.

Note: A common saying is that “the first campaign is always a shoe leather campaign.” Direct contact with voters and specifically asking for their support is desirable whenever possible.
