Language

The term language, or text, refers to the use of words that are either spoken or written. 

 

Language is often used in reference to the specific wording of a speech, document, bill, or law.

Example:

The language of the legislation was filled with so much obscure professional terminology that the lobbyists would need to translate it into layman’s terms in order for the other members to be able to understand what the bill does and why it is necessary.
