Understand

 

Political definitions can be confusing as political parties and movements often use the same words to describe their ideologies but define them differently.

 

Words like equality, justice, freedom, liberal, moderate, conservative or even republican and democratic have entirely different meanings depending on the context they are used, the ideology of the individual using them, and the era in which they are used.

 

Never assume that the word holds the same meaning for you as it does for the individual writing about it. Always look to see what that word means to the user and how that word is applied.
