Strategic Ally

 

The term strategic ally refers to a person or entity who or which is an unlikely ally but for strategic reasons is a temporary ally.

 

Example:

 

The two congressmen were not natural allies and rarely agreed on any issue, however, it was useful for them to form a strategic alliance in order to prevent the passage of HB 365.
